1. POLICIES
Hotel Canyamel Classic is a reflection of the harmony, purity, and energy of Canyamel. An oasis of calm and sophistication where guests can relax and enjoy themselves; a pioneering approach to sustainability that cares for the land and its people; a team dedicated to the happiness of its guests.
We are aware that our tourism operations take place in a privileged setting. For this reason, we have implemented a management system at our hotel based on sustainability standards, always keeping in mind our commitments to environmental conservation, the protection of children, respect for workers’ rights, and the promotion of the local economy—without ever forgetting to provide attentive and personalized service to our guests.
We love and care for this Earth and its people. To this end, we work every day on a sustainability program that promotes environmentally friendly practices, reduces our negative impact on the environment, and contributes to the development of the local community.
In the wake of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, progress in the area of sustainability has been directly affected. The corporate reporting initiative launched in late 2021, in parallel with the application for membership in the Global Compact, has marked a new direction for MZ Hotels, aligning with the United Nations Global Compact’s 2021–2023, which will promote more efficient measurement of the sustainability impact of the group’s hotels through new indicators that will be used to analyze their actual progress in relation to the Ten Principles and the SDGs.
The Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals are the two reference frameworks for MZ Hotels. Companies must operate responsibly by integrating the Ten Principles into their strategies and operations, and also take measures to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.

CHILD PROTECTION PROTOCOL
The purpose of this protocol is to specify the rules of conduct intended to guide the employees and contractors of COMPANY in the event they observe any indication of activities or behaviors that are or may be harmful, both physically and emotionally, to all minors present on the hotel premises or in the surrounding area, such as guests or minors residing in neighborhoods adjacent to the hotel.
The following behaviors shall be considered inappropriate:
• Physical abuse: hitting, shaking, pushing, poisoning, burning, drowning, suffocating, or any other action that causes physical harm to a minor.
• Emotional abuse: ongoing mistreatment of a minor that affects their development, including belittling them, causing them fear, or preventing them from participating in normal social activities.
• Sexual abuse: forcing a minor to participate in sexual activities such as pornography or prostitution, regardless of whether they understand what is happening.
• Neglect: A persistent failure to meet a child’s basic needs—whether physical or psychological—that is likely to have an impact on their development. Neglect ranges from confining a child alone in a room for relatively long periods of time or leaving them unsupervised, to restricting access to medical treatment or failing to respond to their emotional or educational needs.
The guidelines for action are as follows, always in this order:
• Observation. Any action or behavior that is observed and considered likely to constitute or be linked to the exploitation or abuse of minors of any kind must be reported immediately. NEVER TAKE ACTION FIRST WITHOUT REPORTING IT.
• Communication. The information will be forwarded to the child’s guardian or to the facility’s management, who will monitor the situation and remain vigilant in order to detect any suspicious behavior.
• Reporting to Authorities. If the suspicions are confirmed, management will file the appropriate report with the authorities.

2. STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT WITH THE SDGs – UN GLOBAL COMPACT NETWORK
MZ Hotels is firmly committed to the 2030 Agenda and to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to the organization’s core activities. Compliance with the SDGs is also linked to the implementation of the ten principles of the Global Compact in the business sector, as both frameworks share a common overarching goal: to build more sustainable societies and markets.
Our commitment extends to all stakeholders and throughout our value chain: employees, customers, business partners, and suppliers with whom we work.
In addition, we highlight specific actions and projects that contribute to the United Nations framework, to showcase all the work we do based on our commitment.
In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, with it, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—a global call to action to take measures aimed at ending the world’s major challenges; end poverty and inequality, achieve gender equality and access to decent work for all, facilitate access to health care and quality education, protect the environment, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The SDGs are the new overarching framework for contributing to sustainable development, comprising 17 Goals and 169 targets to be met by 2030, and are aimed at all stakeholders worldwide; governments, businesses, and civil society have been called to action to contribute to these global goals.
Within this new framework, businesses are playing a leading role for the first time. The United Nations recognizes this role of the private sector, now viewing businesses not only as entities that generate wealth but also as drivers of global development.
The SDGs provide companies with a universal and coherent framework to guide their contributions to sustainable development. Depending on their sector and business model, organizations must identify which goals and targets they can influence and begin carrying out activities and operations to contribute to sustainable development, both locally and internationally.
The Global Compact is the initiative mandated by the United Nations to translate the SDGs into action within the private sector, where it helps us:
Align the SDGs with your organization’s core business.
Establish best practices and public commitments by your organization toward the SDGs.
The business case for sustainable development is strong: it generates new business opportunities, promotes innovation, and enhances reputation; furthermore, the SDGs help organizations improve their relationships with employees, customers, investors, and other stakeholders, increasing operational efficiency, motivation, and talent retention. Companies must begin taking action to capitalize on these business opportunities by:
Adopting more sustainable business models: such as inclusive businesses, sustainable disruptive innovation, or circular economy strategies. These models are not only profitable but also contribute directly to the SDGs.
Developing sector-specific and cross-sector plans: working together to share best practices, examples, and experiences related to the SDGs among companies within the same sector. It is also advisable to exchange experiences among groups of companies from different sectors to gain a broader perspective on SDG-related work.
Innovate with products and services that contribute to the SDGs: explore, within the company’s business strategies, new and innovative products and services that can contribute to achieving the SDGs, and invest in their research and development.
